I even own that book, it's part of my ever growing chess library... Unfortunately I haven't gotten 'round to reading it yet (like quite some others... No ). Can you recommend it?

Modern chess strategy , the english version is a summary for the three volume dutsch version "moderne Schach Strategie". Actually /I tried to by the detailed deutsch version but I haven't found it.

The book as the author says is directed to study the middle game. It should help the reader to costruct his plans according to the situation in the board.

the first 8 chapters are devoted to study each piece indivisually. I found the chapter on pawns is very essential to any player. May be I overevaluate pawns Laughing

The other chapters are devoted to study the center and some strategical points. I haven't completed it till now but I learn a lot from it.I think the middle game has not took what it worth in the literature of chess since most studies regarded endgame and openings. So I think this book is recommended to study nearly forgotten phase of the game.

I still think one of the best books on middle game strategy is Jeremy Silman's excellent "How to reassess your chess".
Also highly recommendable is of course Nimzowitsch's "My System".

Thinking about it, there are hundreds of middle game books - I don't think this phase of the game was forgotten. Wink

I read it 40 years ago and it was one of the best available at the time. I think CJS Purdy’s writings are much more lucid and I wish I had discovered him back when I was a beginner.
